The stars of German Expressionism get together in an exotic romp set in India. Conrad Veidt, the somnambulist from "Caligari" is now the passionately jealous maharaja. Paul Richter, who played Siegfried in "Die Niebelungen" plays the dashingly handsome British officer who falls in love with the princess and then gets thrown to the tigers. The screenplay was written by Fritz Lang and Thea Von Harbou. The movie is over 3 hours long!

The score, premiered April 30, 2006 at the Rubin Museum, New York. The musicians: Fawzia Afzal-Khan, Hindustani vocal and harmonium; Nitin Mitta, tabla; Rachel Golub, violin and sitar, Andreas Ruggie, piano and electric guitar; Richard Marriott, flute, suling, and trombone. Truly an amazingly full sound for just a quintet.

The music was also used in the documentary "Afghan Women: A History of Struggle" directed by Kathleen Foster.
