Richard Marriott is a composer for film, television, dance and contemporary opera. He is the founder and artistic director of the Club Foot Orchestra, the premiere ensemble for live music performance with silent films. On April 28, 2006, his new ensemble, Ensemble Lumiere New York, accompanied his new score for the film The Indian Tomb at the Rubin Museum. He is currently completing a new score for Love Suicide a modern silent directed by David Teague. His compositions are available on the Amour Fou label.

Composing credits include music for feature film Rising Sun, starring Sean Connery and directed by Phil Kaufman, the score for Academy Award-nominated documentary, Silver into Gold, music for CBS series The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat, also the score for Legong, Dance of the Virgins (picked by New York Times as one of 20 "Notable DVD's of 2004") He was employed as a senior composer for Atari Games 1992-1997. He has worked with California-based choreographer Della Davidson since 1991 and has since begun work in New York with Yoshika Chuma.

Many of his recent compositions are especially noteworthy in their innovative synthesis of Asian and Western elements. A current collaboration with Beijing-based libretist Xu Ying, entitled "Prince Lan Ling", is scored for Western Symphonic Orchestra, Chinese instruments and singers, chorus and dancers. This 90 minute work is scheduled to premiere in Shanghai in 2007.
